About
Ann Townsend is the author of three collections of poetry: Dime Store Erotics, The Coronary Garden, and Dear Delinquent, a New York Times Notable book for 2019. She is co-editor of Radiant Lyre: Essays on Lyric Poetry. Her poetry and essays have been widely published and anthologized. She is the co-founder of VIDA: Women in Literary Arts. In 2016 she, along with VIDA cofounders Cate Marvin and Erin Belieu, accepted the Barnes & Noble Writers for Writers Award, given in recognition of their work for the larger literary community. She is an award-winning hybridizer of modern daylilies at Bittersweet Farm in Granville, Ohio.

I have mentored writers for more than thirty years, both at Denison University as well as at writers’ conferences and low-residency MFA programs around the country. Workshops, Readings, and Talks
I visit colleges, universities and secondary schools for poetry readings, workshops, and craft talks. For daylily lovers, I frequently give talks and presentations to daylily societies. There I showcase my newest daylily introductions and seedlings, and often discuss the intersection of hybridizing and creativity. Reach out if you would like to bring me to your event.
Bittersweet Farm Daylily Sales and Garden Visits
Bittersweet Farm is home to thousands of Ann’s daylily seedlings; she and her husband Martijn also tend ten acres of woods and extensive gardens filled with unusual and rare perennials, trees and shrubs. Bittersweet Farm is open by appointment from late June to early August. In addition to Ann’s 2023 and 2026 introductions, Bittersweet Farm carries many named daylily varieties, as well as thousands of one-of-a-kind seedlings.
